good idea: ombre stationery

unless you've been living under a rock (or haven't heard of pinterest ;), you probably know that ombre has been a hot trend over the past year in fashion, hair, baked goods and even nail polish. did you know it has transferred over to stationery too?

i like the ombre look -- probably because it brings in pastel shades, which are also all the rage right now. plus, seeing it on paper creates such a cool watercolor-y element and i love it! here are a few innovative ways i've seen ombre stationery done around the web.

pretty wedding invitations by linda & harriet, via minted:

ombre watercolor letterpress invitations printed by flourish letterpress (spotted on oh so beautiful paper):

chevron AND ombre...two of the biggest trends of the moment, combined in one pretty note -- from rowhouse 14:

airbrushed ombre borders by anisa suthayalai and alex lin (spotted on oh happy day):

ombre dyed escort cards (via once wed -- plus a tutorial if you want to try it yourself!):

personalized ombre notecards from k sarah designs:

adding ombre to your life (or your stationery) doesn't have to be complicated -- find ways to add little details, like these sweet stitched hearts from red elephant creative:

wild ink press even incorporated ombre into their booth for the national stationery show! i saw it in person and loved how the colors flowed into one another. so pretty! check out this post on design*sponge for a how-to on the making of the booth. (image is from the delphine studios blog.)

what do you think? ombre stationery -- love it or hate it?

  1. I absolutely love the simplicity of the white lettering on watercolor background. Modern but still nautical and northwesty. DEFINITELY bookmarking for JUST the right occasion ;)

  2. tooootally agree. is this an announcement?! ;)
