good idea: the elevated envelope

** UPDATE: exciting news, as of september 15! signups are still open today and tomorrow, so if you hurry you can still be included for the fall mailing. assignments come out on monday! **

tara from ephemera press has the coolest ongoing mail project: the elevated envelope. launched in june 2011, this is a project where creative strangers from all over the world send each other artistic mail. i'm all for anything that gets people excited about snail mail, but adding that extra creative touch? genius! (plus tara is a seattle stationery designer, hooray!)

every few months, a new round of the elevated envelope starts up and participants are assigned small groups of people to send artistic, creative mail to. you put together your mailings, send them out, and then wait for mail to arrive for you! (more info on the project & how to get involved here.) tara has been documenting some of the best-of-the-best on her blog and some are SO amazing. here are a few of my favorites:

looks like we just missed sign ups for fall 2012, but stay tuned -- i think we can get in on the winter 2012 round very soon. hooray for mail!

  4. Thanks for posting! I found your website because I was looking for ideas for wedding invitations. I just bought a postage meter that I love (www.neopostinc.com) so I can send everything when it comes time for that. Beautiful stuff!
